Applications hybrid drives
MECALAC multifunctional excavator "12MTX" with Cummins
The prototype study of the 12MTX hybrids which were awarded the Golden Innovation Award and the Environmental Award at INTERMAT 2009 is evidence of the trend towards the hybridisation of construction machinery. This project was realised in collaboration with French construction machinery manufacturer MECALAC. The existing 74 kW Cummins diesel engine was replaced with a much smaller unit of 51 kW from the same manufacturer. This is supported by a HEINZMANN HYPERION hybrid engine with 20/30 kW continuous/peak duty.

ATLAS Weyhausen wheel loader with Deutz
A collaboration between Deutz AG, construction machinery manufacturer ATLAS WEYHAUSEN and HEINZMANN resulted in the world’s first functioning wheel loader with a hybrid drive which was launched at the BAUMA exhibition in 2007.

LINDE Material Handling fork lift with VW
A forklift truck’s sphere of operation can be considered the virtually “ideal” application for a hybrid application: short, constantly alternating cycles with high peak loads. To cover the range between purely electric forklifts and those with a combustion engine, a hybrid forklift was developed on the basis of a forklift driven by a gas engine. It was possible to achieve consumption savings of 17 % with this prototype simply by hybridising and by optimising the operating strategy.
LADOG multi purpose community vehicle with VM Motori
As part of the ProInnoII research project, a local authority multifunctional vehicle from LADOG GmbH is currently being equipped with a HYPERION hybrid engine from HEINZMANN with 20/30 kW continuous/peak duty. The main drive comes from an R754 series engine made by VM Motori S.p.A. Another partner in the collaboration is the technical college in Offenburg, which is developing a compact, high-performance inverter for this project as part of a research project.

High-performance stand-alone solutions for flexible applications
In order to keep mechanical intervention in an existing system to a minimum, HEINZMANN collaborated with a customer to produce a “stand-alone” version of the HYPERION. In addition to the fact that it is quick to replace, it is characterised by the particularly shock-resistant bearing of the starter generator motor. The intelligent hybrid control unit enables the system to detect the presence of the machine and thus switch on the hybrid function automatically.

VSG speed generator (VSG)
Another interesting application for hybrid technology are small diesel generators, so-called “variable speed generators”. These have been used in the industrial sector for decades to generate electrical energy in the low kW range (stand-alone operation without storage for electrical energy: building site generators, auxiliary generators, so-called “auxiliary power units” in trucks, etc.).
